In the second quarter of 2010, Etam Group (Paris:TAM) posted net sales of €239.2 million, including a positive currency impact of €5.5 million mainly related to appreciation of the yuan against the euro.

The company noted higher net sales in this year’s first quarter of €545.7 million, despite a negative currency impact of €1.8 million.

In Europe, the second quarter of 2010, net sales declined by 1.8%. This fall was not as significant as that of Q1 2010 where they had slumped even more by 3.7%. The group has a European presence through 983 stores across the continent.

Etam’s 2,796 stores in China saw a better outlook however since Q2 2010 net sales rose by 40.9% to €65.2 million, slightly under Q1’s 48.5%.

The Etam Group is an international retailer of women`s ready-to-wear clothing, lingerie and accessories with 3,940 sales outlets.

The brand in France thanked the shift in calendar year, favourable to the dates of the summer sales, to an increase in activity during first two weeks of July.
