Petition against fur boots at Neiman Marcus

The Federal Trade Commission in the USA has received a petition from the Humane Society of the United States calling for an inquest into false advertising and misrepresentation of fur. The subjects of the petition are boots at Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman.

“Blahnik” boots have either been mislabeled, or have been made using the fur of a protected species, the organization believes. The items in question were reported to be made from cava fur or natural ocelot fur. The problem: the ocelot, the wild cat indigenous to South and Central America, is a protected species, and the cava… is an entirely imaginary animal.

Neiman Marcus has, for the moment, refused to comment on the accusations. This is not the first altercation that the group has had with the Humane Society; two years ago the society accused Neiman Marcus of having sold dog and wolf hide represented as rabbit and raccoon fur. After an investigation, the Federal Trade Society concluded that no sanctions were necessary as the group had offered to reimburse customers for the articles concerned.
